“Conjoined Twins Abby and Brittany: Two Teaching Degrees, One Paycheck”

Abby and Brittany Hensel are conjoined twins who share a single body but have two separate heads and distinct minds. From a young age, they worked hard to build independent futures while living and learning together.
They attended Bethel University, where they both studied education. Despite sharing one body, they completed their coursework separately and fulfilled all academic requirements. As a result, they graduated with two individual teaching degrees. Their path demanded extra effort, and they even paid double tuition to earn both degrees. After graduation, the twins were hired by a school district in Minnesota to teach fifth grade.
However, their employment contract was unusual: the school offered them only one shared salary instead of two. The district explained that although there are two minds, the twins occupy a single physical teaching position in the classroom and function as one employee.Abby and Brittany accepted this arrangement when they began their careers, happy to start teaching and gain experience with students.
Over time, however, they have expressed interest in negotiating their pay. They believe that having two separate minds allows them to bring different ideas, teaching styles, and perspectives into the classroom. They also feel they can manage multiple tasks more efficiently than a single teacher.Their unique story continues to spark important conversations about fairness, identity, and how workplaces handle exceptional situations.
