“12-Year-Old Cancer Patient Uses His Make-A-Wish to Help the Homeless Instead of Himself”
Jude Baker, a 14-year-old boy from Summerville, Georgia, went through something incredibly difficult at a very young age. When he was just 12, he was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer.
His life quickly changed from normal school days to long hospital stays, painful treatments, and chemotherapy. Jude once said, “It wasn’t even knowing I could die. The chemo… it hurt.”During his hospital visits, Jude often noticed people experiencing homelessness nearby. He saw them sitting outside, struggling and waiting for help.
Those moments stayed with him and made him think deeply about others who were going through hardship.When the Make-A-Wish Foundation asked Jude what he wanted for his wish, he surprised everyone. Instead of asking for something for himself, he said, “I got out of my version of hell and I want to help others in a similar situation.” His wish was not about receiving, but about giving.
His idea turned into a community effort. Volunteers came together to pack backpacks, gather sleeping bags, and prepare hot meals for people in need. Jude made one rule for himself: he would not eat until every person in line had been served.Because of his wish, more than 300 people received food, care, and support that day. Jude’s strength — even while fighting cancer — inspired many and showed how one young boy’s kindness can create a real impact.
