“Miracle Recovery Destroyed in Seconds: Teen Overcomes Paralysis, Only to Be Crashed Into Hours Later”

Jade Almond, a 16-year-old girl from Abram, Wigan, suffered a severe blow to the head during a Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition in May 2018. She was later diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), a condition that disrupts the communication between the brain and the body. She lost the use of her legs, and everyday life became impossible
.After nearly eight months of intensive rehabilitation at the STEPS centre in Sheffield, Jade reached a major milestone: she was able to run up stairs and jog on a treadmill. That same evening, on the drive home, another car crashed into the back of their vehicle on the M60 motorway. Jade hit her head twice. Her symptoms returned far worse than before.
She became bedridden, with extremely limited strength. Her father suffered a broken collarbone and a punctured lung in the accident. The impact was so violent that Jade’s seat was ripped from its mountings. Her mother said: “We hadn’t even had time to celebrate her success before tragedy struck again.”Jade’s story is a heartbreaking reminder that recovery is not always a straight line, and that some battles are far harder than anyone should ever have to face.
