The Misfit Years: Angelina Jolie’s Turbulent Road to Stardom

Long before she became one of Hollywood’s most iconic stars, Angelina Jolie was a lonely teenager trying to find her place in Los Angeles.Born into a film family but raised on a modest income by her single mother, she first attended Beverly Hills High School, where she felt profoundly out of place.
Teased by her wealthy classmates for her braces, glasses, and slender build, young Angelina struggled to fit in.At the age of 14, encouraged by her mother, she tried modeling, but met with little success.
Seeking a fresh start, she transferred to Moreno High School and fully embraced a rebellious, punk outsider lifestyle. She dyed her hair in bright, striking colors, dressed only in black, went moshing at underground concerts, and even began collecting knives.
Though she felt like a complete misfit, she slowly started landing small roles in 1990s music videos for artists like Meat Loaf and Lenny Kravitz. These early experiences led her back to serious acting training at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.By 1995, her unique edgy appeal caught the attention of Hollywood casting directors. She landed her breakthrough lead role in the cyber-thriller Hackers, which launched her on a fast track to superstardom.
