“57-Year-Old Son Wears Wig, Makeup & Skirt to Impersonate His Mummified Mother for €1,100 Monthly Pension”

In October 2025, a 57-year-old unemployed former nurse from the small town of Borgo Virgilio, near Mantua, Italy, was arrested for an extraordinary fraud scheme. For nearly three years, he had concealed his mother’s death in order to continue receiving her pension of approximately €1,100 per month.
No one suspected what had actually happened inside the house. When his mother’s ID card expired, he took a drastic step: he dressed up as her and went to the registry office. He wore a wig, makeup, lipstick, nail polish, a skirt suit, and jewellery.
However, the disguise was not convincing enough. An attentive municipal employee noticed several suspicious details — his thick neck, visible beard stubble beneath the makeup, and a deep masculine voice that did not match the elderly woman’s appearance. The police were immediately alerted.
During questioning, the man confessed to everything. When officers searched the house, they discovered his mother’s mummified body, which had been placed against a wall in the living room.He now faces charges of fraud, impersonation, and concealment of a corpse. The case has shocked Italy and has been widely dubbed the “Mrs. Doubtfire Scandal.”
