In 2016, Joel Guy Jr. was 28 years old. He was still in school and remained completely financially dependent on his parents. When he discovered that both of them were planning to retire and would soon stop providing him with financial support, he devised a cold and macabre plan to secure his future.After spending Thanksgiving with his family in their home in Knoxville, Tennessee, Joel Guy Jr. carried out his horrifying scheme.
He murdered both of his parents and then dismembered their bodies, all in an attempt to collect the $500,000 life insurance payout that would come to him upon their deaths.In the days and weeks leading up to the crime, he had meticulously prepared. He purchased the necessary materials and tools, carefully wrote down each step of his plan in a notebook, and outlined exactly how he intended to dispose of the bodies to avoid detection.After brutally killing them, he tried to hide the evidence in an extremely gruesome and brutal way.
He placed his mother’s head in a pot on the stove to boil, while storing the dismembered remains of both bodies in plastic containers. He also attempted to dissolve parts of the bodies using chemicals.However, his carefully laid plan quickly unraveled. Police discovered overwhelming evidence at the crime scene — including the notebook filled with his handwritten, step-by-step instructions for the murders and the cover-up. This damning evidence directly linked him to the crimes and led to his arrest.In the end, Joel Guy Jr. was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the premeditated murders of his parents.
