Babysitter Takes 40+ Bites from Pit Bull to Save 8-Month-Old Baby – Refuses to Let Go

When Felicia Hambrick agreed to babysit her best friend Cassy’s three children so that Cassy and her husband could enjoy a romantic anniversary getaway, she expected it to be a calm and peaceful day. What unfolded instead was a terrifying and life-changing ordeal.Cassy’s family dog, a powerful pit bull named Roscoe, had been securely locked inside the bedroom to keep him away from the children. Without any warning, the dog managed to break free and suddenly charged straight toward Felicia, who was at that moment holding Cassy’s 8-month-old baby in her arms. In a split-second decision driven by pure instinct and bravery, Felicia threw herself between the attacking dog and the helpless infant. She cushioned the baby’s fall as she went down to the ground, then used her own body as a living shield to protect the child.Even as Roscoe continued his frenzied attack, biting her repeatedly, Felicia refused to let go of the baby.

She endured more than 40 vicious bites across her body but never once released the infant from her protective embrace.Cassy’s mother, who had briefly stepped outside the house, returned to a horrifying scene. She found Roscoe in a state of uncontrollable frenzy and immediately sprang into action, using a broom to fight the dog off. She herself sustained several bites on her arms during the struggle before finally managing to force Roscoe outside and away from the family.Emergency responders, including firefighters, arrived quickly and rushed Felicia to the hospital with severe injuries.

Miraculously, the 8-month-old baby remained completely unharmed thanks to her babysitter’s selfless actions. From her hospital bed, Felicia later explained her reasoning with remarkable clarity. She said she knew the dog was not targeting the child. “I knew he didn’t want her,” she recalled. “He was coming after me.” Because of that certainty, she made the conscious choice to ensure the dog attacked her instead of the baby.Cassy has been devastated by guilt and has struggled to forgive herself for what happened. “There’s nothing that Felicia can say or anybody can do that’s going to make me feel not guilty,” she admitted. “She’s my best friend. Because of me, her life is forever changed.” At the same time, Cassy fully recognizes the incredible courage her friend displayed. “If the dog had gotten to my baby in any way, she could have died,” she said. “I’m so thankful that Felicia took that on herself instead of my baby.”Following the incident, Roscoe was euthanized. Felicia Hambrick survived her serious injuries, and thanks to her extraordinary bravery and sacrifice, the little girl she was protecting also survived unharmed.
