If you have these cupboards above your fridge, you had better know what they’re used for

A neat and tidy home can do wonders for your focus, and for those like me, it’s hard to concentrate when things feel out of place. Growing up, I didn’t always prioritize organization, but my mother’s knack for keeping our home in perfect order shaped my habits. She not only kept everything looking like it belonged in a real estate listing, but also shared clever organizational tips, especially for tricky spaces like the small cupboards above the refrigerator.

At first, these cupboards might seem impractical. They’re too small for everyday items like plates and cups, and their height can make them hard to reach. However, they can be incredibly useful for storing items you don’t need on a daily basis. Kitchen gadgets such as food processors, blenders, and waffle makers fit perfectly in these spaces. You can also store long-lasting canned foods, baking supplies you only use on weekends, and even cookbooks you want to keep out of sight.

Other ideas for these often-overlooked cupboards include keeping pantry items or a small spice rack for easy access, stashing bulk kitchen towels, or storing fine china and special occasion cutlery out of reach from children. Just be cautious when accessing the cupboard—use a sturdy stool or step ladder to avoid accidents, and remember that the heat from the refrigerator below may not be ideal for all products.
