It is the first fully Gothic work erected on Portuguese soil. It was started in 1178 by the monks of the Cistercian Order. It is classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and as a National Monument since 1910, IPPAR.  On July 7, 2007, he was elected as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal.
