Body of missing Michigan doctor missing before Christmas found under the ice of frozen pond – rest in peace

The search for a missing Michigan doctor ended in tragedy earlier this week after investigators found his body under a frozen pond.

According to reports, Dr. Bolek Payan was a psychiatrist at Henry Fort Health care organization. Concerns for his well being were initially sparked last week when he was reported as missing after failing to pick up his dogs from a friend’s home on Thursday, December 22.

Authorities are said to have eventually found Payan’s body under the ice in a pond close to his home.

The Blackman-Leoni Township Department of Public Safety (BLDPS) told how investigators searching for Payan had accessed password-protected security cameras that showed him leaving his home on food last Thursday afternoon.

Police offers, assisted by dogs and drones, combed the woods and surrounding areas by the doctor’s residence but could not locate him.

After coming across the aforementioned pond, authorities drilled a hole through the ice and found Dr. Payan’s body.

“After not locating anything on land, holes were cut in the ice of a pond on the property yesterday and divers located Dr. Payan’s body under the ice today,” the BLDPS said in a statement on Tuesday.

A family friend to Payan, Nicole Keiser, revealed how he had dropped off his dogs at her house at around 8 a.m. on Thursday, but that he never came back to pick them up.

Speaking to WILX-TV, Keiser said it was “out of character” for him not to pick up his dogs, this prior to his body being found.

As per Henry Ford Health, Payan graduated from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Illinois in 2017. At the time of his passing, he worked out of Jackson, Michigan, at Henry Ford Jackson Outpatient Behavioral Health.

The BLDPS added that the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office would be conducting an autopsy and toxicology testing which would “aid in further investigating this incident.”
